“You play a big part in LifePath right now. You’ve been there for me too!” —Jakie

“I was homeless. I got cancer—real bad,” Jakie sighs, a local man still shocked at how vulnerable he’d finally ended up after a lifetime of strength and self-sufficiency.

“I’ve been sick so many times; in the hospital so many times,” he remembers. The even harsher reality is that once discharged, Jakie was completely on his own with no place to go and no one to help. Until he found refuge at LifePath Christian Ministries, York’s rescue mission . . .

“They welcomed me into the program,” Jakie says, grateful for the safe haven—and the opportunity for new life in the new year. “If it weren’t for this, I’d be sleeping under a bridge,” he says, knowing he could easily have not survived the winter.

That’s the kind of encouragement so many in harm’s way find at LifePath. After four long, hard years of fighting cancer and life on the streets, Jakie understands how hard it is to overcome suffering and find hope.

“The people here are very genuine,” he says. “They’ve been there for me—they’ve been there for a lot of men, a lot of women. You get so many different people coming in to find help in this place, and the volunteer workers and staff are so good to us. Every day. Every night!”

Jakie is forever grateful for God’s hand on his life, for all he’s learned and experienced at LifePath—and for the hearts whose gifts and prayers make this ministry possible.

“You play a big part in LifePath right now,” he affirms. “You’ve been there for me too!”

“LifePath helps a lot of people!” —Jakie

Of course, the impact you make through this shared ministry to York’s hungry, homeless, and hurting neighbors goes far beyond the hot meals and safe shelter you share this winter: your gifts and prayers also provide the place for God’s purpose of life transformation.

And it all starts with the warm, welcome meals you make possible with every $2.64 you share, so please look for God’s leading to share more new life in the new year!
